UC Davis Police Officer Fired Over a Lie?
Here's a video primer on what actually happened at the UC Davis pepper-spraying controversy, in case you don't already know or you need a refresher:
So, despite knowing the protesters were obstructing the arrest of a small number of people, despite knowing the protesters were warned repeatedly that they would be pepper sprayed if they did not clear a path. despite the fact that the UC Davis officer acted within the guidelines of the department, UC Davis has decided to throw Lt. John Pike under the bus.
UC Davis spokesman Barry Shiller said he could not discuss the details of Pike's departure, but in response to queries from The Bee, he said Pike was no longer employed there as of Tuesday.
"Consistent with privacy guidelines established in state law and university policy, I can confirm that John Pike's employment with the university ended on July 31, 2012," Shiller said. "I'm unable to comment further."
Pike, 39, declined to comment when reached by The Bee as he was sitting in a meeting on campus where he said he was being terminated.
If anyone should be facing criminal charges, it's the students who were engaging in obstruction of justice, but instead, Pike and his fellow officers are being targeted for "victimizing the students."
The university, Pike and other officers have since been sued by students who say they were victims of the pepper-spraying. The Yolo County District Attorney's Office is still reviewing the matter to determine whether criminal charges should be filed.
This is an appalling miscarriage of justice, and it ought to shock anyone who supports the rule of law. It's also a case study in how the left can manipulate the narrative and completely erase facts. The "peaceful protester students" were the aggressors; they forced this conflict, and then used it to defame the very people charged with protecting their campus.
