NC Approves Amendment 1 in Landslide
North Carolina's marriage amendment passed with 61 percent of the vote to the opposition's 39 percent. At the county level, the amendment passed in a landslide victory garnering support from 93 of North Carolina's counties. Only 7 counties voted against the amendment. The counties which voted against the amendment were: Buncombe, Chatham, Durham, Orange, Mecklenburg, Wake, and Watauga County. For those unfamiliar with North Carolina geography, these are the counties surrounding Asheville, Charlotte, and Raleigh.
With this vote, North Carolina becomes the 31st state to pass a marriage amendment. When put to a vote of the people, they have chosen traditional marriage every time, in all 31 contests.
